Marissa Baecker

Hockey Canada unveiled the roster for the Sport Chek Development Camp in Plymouth, MI this summer in preparation for the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships taking place in Buffalo, NY at the end of this calendar year. That roster includes two Kelowna Rockets players that have been invited to camp.

Rockets forward Dillon Dube returns to the Hockey Canada camp after being a part of Team Canada at last years World Juniors. He’ll enter the camp hoping to play in the tournament for his second year in a row as he and his Canadian teammates collected a silver medal at last years tournament. Dube chipped in three assists in seven games and a recorded a +6 plus/minus.

Rockets d-man Cal Foote has also been invited to attend the summer camp. This comes after Cal had a strong season for Kelowna posting six goals and 51 assists for 57 points in 71 games to lead the Rockets defence in scoring. The good news adds to Cal’s exciting week as he and teammate Kole Lind are in Chicago for the NHL Entry Draft this Friday, in which it’s possible that they could both be selected in the first round.

There are 42 prospects invited, which includes nine returning players from the 2017 team and 14 players eligible in this weekend’s NHL draft. The players will be hoping to be invited back to the final selection camp in December for the 2018 WJC. Among the invitees are four goaltenders, 13 defencemen and 25 forwards.

The camp schedule has yet to be announced.

The tournament begins on Boxing day.

Also invited to Hockey Canada summer camps were Rockets prospect goaltender Roman Basran, Rockets prospect defenceman Kaedan Korczak, and Rockets forward Nolan Foote.

Korczak and Basran were invited to the U17 development camp.

Nolan Foote was invited to the U18 training camp and will take part in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in August.
