Rockets back home to take on Royals in season series finale

The Kelowna Rockets are back home at Prospera Place to play the third and final game of the weekend against the Victoria Royals.

The Royals took the first two games of the weekend in Victoria to push themselves past Kelowna for first place in the B.C. Division. Despite the setback, Rockets Assisstant Coach Kris Mallette says it’s the same game plan heading into Monday’s matinee.

“We don’t feel we need to change anything.” Mallette said. “We have a game plan that, regardless of the outcomes this weekend, has provided us success before. Capitalizing on our chances will be key and we’ll need to stay out of the box and play 5-on-5.”

Monday’s game will be the eighth and final time the two teams will meet this season. The Royals have the slight edge in their season series this year with a 4-2-0-1 record over Kelowna.  Regan Nagy scored a hat-trick to lead the Royals to an 8-3 victory in Kelowna in the first match-up of the season. Dillon Dube scored two goals and added an assist in Victoria  in a 4-2 Rockets win on November 3rd. The teams played the second game in a back-to-back weekend the next night when the Rockets dropped a 4-2 decision. The Royals made their way back  to Kelowna on December 30th when Roman Basran stopped 36 shots through regulation and overtime, before Leif Mattson scored the shootout winner to give the Rockets a 3-2 shootout win. The Rockets hosted the Royals on January 20th when Jack Cowell potted two goals for Kelowna in an 8-4 win. The teams squared off in Victoria on Friday night when Tyler Soy put up four points to lead the Royals to a 6-1 win. Saturday night’s affair turned out to be a three point game with the Royals squeaking out a 4-3 overtime win. The eighth game of the season goes on Monday afternoon at Prospera Place with puck drop going at 2:05pm.

The Rockets head into Monday with a 33-17-4-1 record that’s good for 71 points and second in the B.C. Division. The Royals record sits at 34-19-3-1. The Royals sit first in the division leading the Rockets by one point. The Vancouver Giants sit third in the division with 66 points.

Join the Rockets at Prospera Place on Monday for their final meeting against the Victoria Royals this regular season in a Family Day matinee. There will be face painters in action, along with kids and family prizes to be won.

Following Monday the Rockets are back home again on Wednesay, Valentines Day, for a 7:05pm showdown against the Red Deer Rebels.

Tickets are available for Rockets home games through, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
