Rocket Recap: Giants take down the Rockets

The Kelowna Rockets were blanked 4-0 Sunday evening by the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, BC.

Kelowna went 0-6 while on the man advantage and only managed 14 shots on net throughout the game.

The opening period was filled with bad blood, with both teams coming together multiple times throughout the first 20 minutes. As the horn sounded at the end of the first, all of the players on the ice grabbed a man and Nolan Foote and Seth Bafaro dropped the gloves. When it was all said and done, 22 penalty minutes were handed out between four players for actions that took place at the end of the period.

The Giants took charge of the game during the second period, scoring three times while holding back the Rockets. On a delayed call,  Milos Roman (3) netted the first goal of the game 17:37 into play. The Calgary Flames draft pick was standing at the backdoor when a shot taken from the opposite point went wide and bounced off of the backboards to him. Roman (4) extended the lead with his second of the game just under two minutes later with a power play marker. Justin Sourdif (3) chipped in a goal to make it 3-0 Giants before the end of the second.

The Rockets stayed out of the penalty box during the third period and had two power plays of their own but couldn’t solve Giants netminder David Tendeck. With the Rockets net empty, Sourdif (4) iced the game with his second of the night.

Cole Schwebius stopped 25 of 28 he faced in his first start for the Rockets during the regular season. The Giants outshot the Rockets 29-14.

Kelowna is now 2-1-1-0 on the season.
