The Western Hockey League announced today in Calgary that the Kelowna Rockets have been awarded the hosting rights to the 2020 Memorial Cup presented by KIA. The tournament will run from May 22nd through May 31st, 2020, and will showcase outstanding hockey from top teams in the Canadian Hockey League.

“We are extremely honoured and feel very privileged to have the Memorial Cup coming to Kelowna in 2020,” said Kelowna Rockets President and General Manager, Bruce Hamilton. “I want to thank the Western Hockey League Board of Governors for their support of our bid, and also congratulate our Kelowna Bid Committee.”

During this tournament, Kelowna will come alive with a multitude of events and activities to celebrate the 102nd Memorial Cup presented by KIA. The event will be so much bigger than just a hockey tournament at Prospera Place, with Fan Fest activities throughout the downtown core and interactive viewing centres in community neighbourhoods.

As a community, Kelowna raised the bar as the host city of the 2004 Memorial Cup, and in

2020, we plan to raise that bar once again. Tom Dyas, Chair of the Bid Committee, is pleased to see the event returning to Kelowna. “Our successful bid will send vibrations throughout the Okanagan region. It was such a collaborative effort that allowed this dream to come to Kelowna. It has been a privilege to work with such topclass organizations on an event that will provide a substantial economic impact for our community.”

Tourism Kelowna has also been a proud partner of the bid. “We supported the bid through our major events fund which is part of a strategy to attract highprofile national and international events,” said Harvey Hubball, Business DevelopmentSports and Events for Tourism Kelowna. “In May 2020, Kelowna will welcome thousands of players, coaches, and spectators, that will shine a spotlight on our local tourism industry.”

“What a huge thrill to be chosen as the host city for one of the best tournaments in the world of sport,” added Mayor Colin Basran. “Congratulations to the Kelowna Rockets and their team for putting together a winning proposal, highlighting the great strengths and experience our City brings to the table.”

Season tickets are on sale now, and season ticket holders will have first right of refusal on 2020 Memorial Cup presented by KIA ticket packages. The Kelowna Rockets will be hosting a Season Ticket Open House on Sunday, October 7th from 12-3pm at Prospera Place. All available seats will be clearly marked.
