Hockey is back as the 2018 Kelowna Rockets Rookie Camp starts Monday followed by Main Camp

The time has come once again to enjoy Rockets hockey. The off-season has all but come to a close and hockey players are heading to Kelowna for the 2018 Kelowna Rockets Rookie Camp followed by Training Camp.

Rockets prospects get the opportunity to showcase their skills to coaches and management to try to earn their spot in main camp. Rookie camp runs August 20th – August 24th and currently features 99 Rockets hopefuls. (Number subject to change)

Rockets Assistant Coach Kris Mallette had some words of encouragement for the newcomers.

“Enjoy the experience and do what you do best. Our scouts do a great job identifying talent so when you come here work hard and have fun,” said Mallette.

Following Rookie Camp, Main Camp begins on August 24th and runs through August 30th. Team selection takes place during main camp, and carries over into preseason.

As for the returning players heading into main camp, coaches want to see improvement.

“Our returning players will need to show management and the coaches that they put the work in over the summer,” Mallette said. “There are never any guarantees so everyone will need to work hard and compete for a spot on the roster.”
